What is PhysioEx?
PhysioEx consists of twelve laboratory simulations and a histology slide tutorial. The lab simulations can be used to supplement wet labs, allowing students to conduct experiments that may be difficult to perform in a wet lab due to time, cost, or safety concerns. PhysioEx also allows students to repeat experiments as often as they like—changing parameters along the way—without harming any live specimens. In addition, the histology slide tutorial gives students access to a rich database of histology slides, which they can study with or without labels, view at various magnifications, and move around as though the slides were being examined through a microscope. PhysioEx is intended for use in conjunction with the following Pearson/Benjamin Cummings lab manuals, which provide detailed instructions for using the simulations:

How do I order the accompanying lab manual(s)?
You may order any of the accompanying lab manuals by contacting your local Pearson sales representative or calling 1-800-824-7799. Have the author, title, and ISBN number of the lab manual you wish to order on hand.

I downloaded the Flash 7 plug-in, but I still can't see the red clock hand moving on the opening screen. What should I do?
Close out of your browser and then restart it. If you still can't see the red clock hand moving, restart your computer and restart your browser. If you continue to experience difficulties, contact Technical Support.

I am having trouble viewing the Histology Tutorial, but other labs work fine. What should I do?
This is probably because you have Flash Player 6 instead of the more recent Flash Player. You may download the current version of the Flash plug-in from Adobe.

Is it possible to improve the load time of the labs?
If you have DSL or cable access to the Internet, the labs should load very quickly. On a 56k modem, it can take 20 seconds to 1 minute to load some labs. Once the lab is loaded, your computer will store it in its cache and you should not experience any further delays as you work through it (the one exception to this is the histology slide tutorial, which is recommended for use only with DSL or cable access to the Internet.)
